Welcoming Michigan, Off to a Great Start!
January 2012, Southeast Michigan - Welcoming Michigan has been busy! Our Southeast Michigan Communities Coordinator, Christine Sauvé, started the year off by reaching out to community leaders and forming Welcoming committees in Sterling Heights, Hamtramck, and Chadsey Condon in southwest Detroit. These leadership teams are made up of volunteers from community organizations, faith communities, service providers, educators, students, business leaders, law enforcement, and city government staff. They are phenomenal and have been busy planning welcoming activities for their communities. These activities include various public engagement events, such as community dialogues about cultural identity, which offer an opportunity for U.S.-born and foreign-born community members to get to know each other and learn from one another.
